The Missouri Annual Conference and Mt. Olivet UMC Charge prides itself on taking a leadership position in creating a safe environment for children, youth and vulnerable adults. As part of that commitment, we require all leaders and volunteers working with children, youth and vulnerable adults in our churches to complete an online abuse prevention program and pass a complete background check through our partnering system, Safe Gatherings.
Safe Gatherings process includes processing of two electronic references, background checks, and a 1.5-hour online abuse prevention and boundary awareness training. Upon completion, an applicant will be certified at the Conference level.
There is a $45 fee for the training and an additional $8.50 fee for driver's license background checks. Driver's license background checks are only required by the Charge if a volunteer will be driving on official church business or transporting children, youth, or vulnerable adults. Reimbursement is available for these fees by contacting the church office.
To begin the training through Safe Gatherings click on the link below. Select "Church of Faith-Based Organization" > "Methodist" > "Missouri" > and begin typing in and select your church's name.
Thank you for your partnership in our commitment to ensuring that we provide safe places of worship and fellowship to everyone we serve.
